ELKHORN RIDGE TRAIL

Mountain Contemporary - Elkhorn Reserve - Fraser, Colorado

This 4,000 sf. mountain modern house is built on a 3.5 acre site in the Elkhorn Reserve Development, outside of Fraser. The site looks east to the Continental Divide and has access to the trails at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.  The house was arranged in a linear north south orientation on the west side of a meadow. This location gives maximum privacy from the road and the neighboring houses. It also allows each room of the house a dramatic view of the Continental Divide across the meadow. To the west of the main body of the house is the garage, entry, gear room and dog run. The main portion of the house is then accessed from the entry across a bridge that allows site drainage to flow to the north.

The site slopes to the north, so the house has an appearance of emerging from the hillside. On the main floor, at the south end of the house is the great room with the kitchen, dining and living area in an ‘L’ configuration. The ‘L’ configuration surrounds a patio with a fire pit. Behind the kitchen is a working pantry. Concrete floors, exposed steel structure, a wall of east facing glass and a board formed concrete fireplace give this room the mountain modern feel that the owner’s desired. At the north end of the main floor is an office, powder room and the master suite with a private deck overlooking the wetlands to the North. This has become the owner’s favorite place to have morning coffee during the summer.

The lower level contains two bedroom suites, a family room and a wine cellar. There is a private patio with a hot tub located off of the family room. The exterior materials are reclaimed wood, stone and grey steel panels for minimal maintenance. The roof is a combination of asphalt shingles and standing seam metal roofing.
